Stealth’s electric bike range isn’t just built to be fast – it’s built to last.
Every component of a Stealth Electric Bike, from the high torque hub motors to the heavy duty CroMoly monocoque frames, is designed for long life and extreme durability. Part and parcel of this longevity is the regenerative (regen) braking system. Standard issue on Stealth’s B-52, F-37 H-52, regen braking recovers the kinetic energy created during braking and feeds it back into the battery.
It’s one element of what makes Stealth the most durable electric bikes in the world, and the benefits for pilots are impressive.
How electric bike regenerative braking works
Traditional braking systems use hydraulic pressure to clamp sintered brake pads down onto steel disc rotors to slow the rotation of the wheels. The friction created in this process turns kinetic energy (stored in the rotating wheels) into heat (the lowest form of energy) which, in simple terms is wasted and causes premature wear of disc rotors and brake pads. While pilots have the option to upgrade to the stronger Magura MT7 hydraulic braking system, when used in combination with regen braking, it can provide a smoother and more efficient technique for washing off speed in almost every situation.
Rather than convert kinetic energy into heat, regenerative braking harnesses the kinetic energy and converts it into electrical energy before feeding it back into the main traction battery. Under ideal conditions, our engineers have seen a Stealth B-52 recover up to 10 per cent from a single charge, meaning more saddle time and less pedal time.
Because the regen braking system can be operated independently of the hydraulic system (using your left thumb), pilots can use regen when coasting down hill or for the majority regular braking situations. This reduces the use of the hydraulic system and in turn reduces wear and tear caused by friction. In emergency situations, where hard braking and precise modulation is required, we recommend using either the hydraulic system or combining both at the same time to brake hard and safely come to a complete stop.
Like every other aspect of the Stealth range, when the independent features are combined, synergy and intuition come together to create speed, control and safety on every ride.
But how does Stealth’s regenerative braking feel?
One of the fundamental differences between Stealth’s regen braking compared to conventional braking systems is the sensation the rider gets when that little red regen button is pressed. Those who have watched a fighter jet land on an aircraft carrier will have seen how quickly the arrestor system decelerates up as the jet comes in to land. That precise moment when a Stealth pilot hits the regen button is very similar to when the cable hooks up and pulls tight, thrusting the pilot forward before coming to a stop.
Stealth’s bikes are built for rough play. The aircraft-grade CroMoly frame and DNM USD-8 suspension forks combined with a world class, long wearing braking system are about making sure your components will last for the long-term.
Wear and tear is a phenomenon of physics that the universe will never escape. With Stealth’s revolutionary regen braking and top-of-the-class components, you can at least count on spending less time in the workshop, and more time in the saddle.
